What is Double Cleansing?
To effectively remove dirt and debris from the surface of your skin, double cleansing involves washing your face twice, once with a creamy or oily cleanser and once with a water-based one. This technique is a Korean important and is designed to eliminate the remainders of dirt and makeup on the skin, as well as helping to balance oilier skin.
Isn’t Cleansing Once Enough?
Short answer: not always. It depends on the types of products you use.
Today’s top cleansers are already designed to effortlessly penetrate and wash away makeup, sunscreen, grime, pollutants, and other surface detritus, so not everyone has to double cleanse. However, people who use makeup that resists transfer and/or tenacious sunscreen may find that twice cleaning makes it easier to thoroughly remove those formulations.
If you have extremely oily skin and find that your usual cleanser doesn’t get rid of all the extra oil, but a stronger single cleanser makes your skin feel tight and dry, double cleaning might also be helpful. Using two mild cleansers is considerably preferable to using just one harsh, drying cleaner.
