Our go to guide on how to deal with Keratosis Pilaris and dry skin this winter season. Ameliorate's range is designed to help combat such problems by not only visually calming KP but also improving your skin health with each use.

Keratosis Pilaris and central heating

If you have Keratosis Pilaris, cold weather, central heating and low humidity can play havoc with your skin.  Working in a warm office, walking around air-conditioned shops, watching TV with an open fire and central heating dries the air which in turn dries your skin.

Most dry skin is caused, quite simply, by your skin losing water. So, while your Keratosis Pilaris bumps need to be managed with gentle exfoliation and an Alpha Hydroxy Acid, your skin also needs a bigger daily dose of moisturisation than usual.

For some with KP this can be in the form of applying lotion twice a day, others invest in an oil-rich body cream to really lock in the moisture while some just grit their teeth and wait for summer.

Our advice is to look for a lotion or body cream that promises at least 12 hours of hydration, something that can pull moisture into the skin via humectants and protect your skin to stop the water evaporating in the first place. Our Transforming Body Lotion is designed for this and it exfoliates bumps.

Keratosis Pilaris and hot baths

In addition, rewarding yourself at the end of a long day during dark, cold winter evenings with a hot, steaming bath is also problematic for those with Keratosis Pilaris.  Hot water and most bubble baths strip your skin leaving it tight and dry.

The key is to find a bath product that actually moisturises your skin while you soak, we developed the Softening Bath Milk Oil with this in mind. It is formulated so the active moisturising ingredients, which are soap-free and pH-balanced, are attracted to your skin and do not wash away with the bathwater. It is clinically proven to moisturise after bathing for up to 8 hours – even if you do have very dry skin or KP.

Keratosis Pilaris and Christmas parties

Finally, the party season is nearly here and for those of us with KP, exposing our arms can be a battle with our desire for a skimpy top vs our negative feelings about baring our arms.

So here’s our checklist of what to do to be super soft and smooth during the winter months and body confident for every party!

A week before the party buy AMELIORATE’S Smooth Skin Hero's Bundle. Our Body Skincare System is specifically designed to smooth away bumps and soften and moisturise rough, dry skin caused by Keratosis Pilaris.

It contains 3 of our core products:

  1. On day 1 and 7, exfoliate using our Smoothing Body Exfoliant on dry skin. Gently massage for a few minutes to exfoliate with the non-scratchy bio-degradable bamboo granules, let the Cocoa and Shea Butters and Coconut Oil nourish your skin and allow the Alpha Hydroxy Therapy to smooth those bumps.
  2. Every day wash with our Nourishing Body Wash, enriched with Omega Oils which protect your skin’s natural barrier, even in the bath or shower and proven to leave your skin moisturised for up to 8 hours!
  3. Twice every day massage in our Transforming Body Lotion – the first body lotion to exfoliate and moisturise at the same time! It is also proven to leave skin moisturised for up to 12 hours!

All of these products contain our unique LaH6 Skin Hydration Complex proven to give an intense hit of moisture at each step – even those used in the bath or shower!
